Promote Agricultural Activities

Up to 200 smallholder farmers from Rabai have been sensitized on SMART agricultural practices and the importance of cultivating high value traditional food crops and trees including reforestation of the degraded parts of the Kaya Mudzi Muvya forest as part of a wider effort to increase agricultural productivity, preserve biodiversity, mitigate the effects of climate change on food security while at the same time conserving the environment. Through this project, up to 2,500 indigenous trees have been planted in degraded areas of the Kaya Mudzi Muvya forest.

The project has also formed 3 community self help groups to champion the economic interests of youth, women and elderly members of the community namely; Rabai Ecotourism Self-Help Group, Rabai Heritage and Environment Conservancy Self-Help Group; and Rabai Indigenous Community Knowledge and Traditions Self-Help Group.

This is part of the project sustainability mechanisms inbuilt within the project to ensure project beneficiaries sustain the outcomes of the project interventions.
